- By KALOBWE BWALYA

A DECISION to have Lusaka locked down to allow fumigation of public places can only be done after assessment is made by health experts, says Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga.

Mr Kamanga however said in an interview that Government is closely monitoring public compliance of Covid-19 guidelines not just in Lusaka, but the entire nation.

Mr Kamanga explained that fightng the Covid-19 pandemic should not only be left for the government, but the people could help by following the health guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

He said it is possible that Covid-19 can be managed only if everyone became responsible by avoiding unnecessary movements.

He however said Government will not work in isolation, but ensure that every stakeholder is on board.

There is no need to start visiting relatives or friends, simply make phone calls because time has now changed which now calls for personal responsibility and discipline, “said Mr Kamanga.

He has also disclosed that the government has since started fumigating all public places that are in the central business district (CDB) of Lusaka as a way of fighting Covid-19.

Mr Kamanga however called on the general public to ensure that they reported any positive case that are being suspected to be Covid-19.

He said his office is ever on alert including all the districts in the province to ensure that people are protected from the pandemic.

Mr Kamanga was commenting on calls from Governance activist Reuben Lifuka suggesting that Covid-19 hot spots like Lusaka should be locked down to allow for fumigation of public places.
