We need bridge on Mindolo stream, says PF candidate

- By ROGERS KALERO

REHABILITATING the Kapenta footbridge on Mindolo stream in Kitwe will be one of my priority mini-projects once I am elected as Chimwemwe Member of Parliament (MP), Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Allen Banda has said.

Mr Banda said rehabilitating the Kapenta footbridge which connects Chimwemwe East to Bulangililo township would be worked on because lives of school children had been lost after being attacked by crocodiles while crossing the stream.

He said so far two children have died after being attacked by crocodiles while the other one was still recovering from the serious wounds he suffered at the hands of a crocodile.

“It is not a big bridge for vehicles, it’s a footbridge and so I think with my little resources with support from Government, I can put up a foot bridge. A leader with a heart for the people will always put measures to stop more lives from being lost.

“We are leaders because of people and so we should strive to serve them to the best of our ability. So, once elected as MP, I will serve to the best of my ability,’’ Mr Banda said.

And some Chimwemwe residents interviewed said there was need to rehabilitate the foot bridge at Kapenta to avoid losing lives.

Mr Daniel Mbao said the residents have hope and confidence that Mr Banda would be able to deliver development including working on Kapenta footbridge.

“We need to fix that bridge, we can’t continue losing lives in Chimwemwe like this. Chimwemwe had an absentee MP for the past five years, it’s time to vote Mr Banda, not people who failed to deliver when they were given a five-year mandate,” he said.
