UPND ACCUSES PF OF DEFACING HH POSTERS

- By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has condemned attempts by alleged PF cadres to pull down the Hakainde Hichilema billboards in the Central Business District (CBD) in Kitwe.

UPND Copperbelt provincial chairman, Elisha Matambo, described the act as cowardly, uncalled for and a desperate effort of a dying horse’s last kicks.

Mr Matambo said the act underpinned the diminished popularity of the ruling party on the Copperbelt and the rest of the country.

He said there was no need for party members to start pulling down campaign posters of their opponents when all they could do was to sell their ideas to the people.

“If they are well liked as like they claim, why would they be tearing down billboards on the streets instead of engaging electorate in the townships?

“This is an indication that they have realized that the people have rejected them and all they want is total change,” he said.

Mr Matambo commended ordinary residents of Kitwe who repelled the thugs in their several attempts to vandalise the billboard at the weekend.

He urged them to continue with their vigilance and solidarity as good citizens.

The UPND provincial chairman said youths across the province should be alert and ensure that the billboards were guarded around the clock and also effect citizens’ arrest on elements that would be found defacing or pulling down campaign materials.

Mr Matambo warned the ruling party that no amount of intimidation or vandalism of campaign materials would change people’s resolve to vote for the preferred candidate.
