NGO salutes peaceful Zambians
…during KK’s mourning period
ZAMBIANS across the country have been commended for exhibiting peace and unity during the period of the national mourning of the Late First Republican President Dr Kenneth David Kaunda.
Project Support Learners Zambia (PSLZ) said it was happy with the exemplary behaviour Zambians have demonstrated during the 21 days period of national mourning.
PSLZ Livingstone District Coordinator, Nyambe Mutete, observed that this kind of behaviour has made Zambia to be known to the outside world of what it is today.
“As cultured Zambians, during grief and bereavement, we always bury our differences to give respect for the dead than allowing political leaders to capitalise on such situations,” he said.
Mr Mutete told the Daily Nation in Livingstone that Dr Kaunda’s legacy would remain valued not just in Zambia but the entire Southern Africa region.
“Project Support Learners Zambia wishes to join hands with all stakeholders, institutions and freedom fighters in mourning and celebrating Dr Kenneth Kaunda death and funeral as a selfless visionary leader whose life really emulated many people’s lives across the country, continent and the globe.
“We are delighted with the manner his death is being celebrated across the country, it has really showed the symbol of unity, peace and love and we commend all Zambians for that,” he said.
Mr Mutete said that the naming of the country’s currency as kwacha must be commended by all Zambians because it provided the industrial base to grow the country’s economy during Dr Kaunda’s reign.
He challenged political leaders to learn from DR Kaunda in maintaining love, peace and unity as the country heads to the polls next month.
