- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has summoned Petauke independent parliamentary candidate, Emmanuel Jay Banda over allegations that he was using the Patriotic Front campaign materials.

Mr Banda has however, vowed to continue campaigning for President Lungu, saying such schemes were meant to intimidate him and won’t be moved.

“I will not stop campaigning for President Edgar Lungu no matter how much people want to frustrate me, because I know that they have sensed defeat and busy concocting lies about me,” Mr Banda charged.

A letter dated July 9, 2021 and signed by George Mulenga, ECZ district conflict management committee secretary, said the complaint was on the alleged continued use of the PF colours and materials by Mr Banda.

“You may wish to note that the Patriotic Front party had lodged in a complaint against your continued use of vehicles belonging to yourself branded with Patriotic Front party regalia and colour labelled with the portrait of

His Excellency, the President Dr E. C. Lungu who is also the presidential aspiring candidate for the Patriotic Front party,” the letter reads in part.

However, Mr Banda said in an interview yesterday that he had been summoned by the ECZ on allegations that he was using PF campaign materials.

Mr Banda said he did not care if they imprison him or do what they want, but he would continue campaigning for President Lungu.

“I have seen the ploy of these people is to frustrate our work because they want to take away votes from the President. I will not allow anyone to do this,” Mr Banda vowed.

He said he would go and hear the complaint lodged with the ECZ and respond accordingly but wanted to put on record that he would never abandon President Lungu and he Would remain part of his campaign message.
