UPND CADRES ATTACK MOTORISTS

-

“A group of suspected political cadres clad in UPND regalia who were coming from nominations in Mandevu attacked the people and some PF cadres as they were passing through Great North Road near Kasangula roundabout.

“They went on to break the side windscreen of the Toyota Hilux, registration number BAC 4633 belonging to one member of public Mr Chama who ran away upon seeing a group of cadres.

“The cadres also went on to destroy the tables in one of the PF offices situated at the corner of Kasangula roundabout and removed the posters and flags,” Ms Katongo said.

And Governance expert Isaac Mwanza was among the people and motorists who were attacked and had their vehicles damaged.

In an interview, Mr Mwanza who confirmed the development called on President Edgar Lungu to deploy the Zambia Army in hotspot areas of Mandevu, Kanyama and Chawama if violence was to end.

Mr Mwanza said it has become apparent that the Zambia Police Service has failed to deal with violence and would not manage to save lives ahead of the 2021 elections.

While Mr Mwanza called on Police to respond to violent attacks that have been unleashed by the UPND youths, he said the Zambia Police appear to be powerless to prevent the violence during this election.

“President Lungu must act to save the lives of innocent people from the barbaric behaviour from cadres. He must not place the trust on the police to keep peace because the violence going on is bigger than what the Police can handle,” he said.
