HH VICTORY BREAKS TRIBAL LINES -NGO

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

THE Continental Leadership Research Institute (CLRI) says the election of President elect Hakainde Hichilema has broken the barrier of tribal segregation and is a message to the world that the country is improving its democratic processes.

CLRI Executive Director,

Paul Mundia Hakoola, said the successful election reaffirms the country's record of peace and unity, regardless of one's ethic grouping.

Mr Hakoola, however, noted that there should be no selective application of the law in dealing with the culprits who participated in the violence that took place in some parts of the country.

"There is a lot of work ahead; firstly unifying the country is a key element to ensure that regional balancing is achieved in the selection of the cabinet, other interest groups such as women and youths should be considered.

"Our previous government had non youths represented in their cabinet. Our view as institute is that youths and women should represented in decision making for effective policy formulation and implementation and not to bundle them in the security wing," Mr Haakola observed.

Going forward, he said, non-violence was cardinal and that the incoming UPND government should stick to the motto of 'One Zambia One Nation.' Mr Hakoola was looking forward to hearing the new policy direction through the inauguration speech.

"The institute welcomes the direction by the President elect to direct cadres to stop any form of violence, the issue of cadres made the PF very unpopular as it created parallel governance structures that undermined legal institutions of governance," he said.
