ANDELEKI BACKS CALLS TO HARMONISE LACUNAS
NE W L Y - elected UPND Katombora Member of Parliament, Clement Andeleki, has supported calls by President elect Hakainde Hichilema to harmonise lacunas in the Republican Constitution surrounding the Presidential term.
Mr Andeleki, a lawyer and a former Registrar of Societies, said the pronouncement by Mr Hichilema was timely.
He said this was so because a country with bad laws risked being colonised by foreigners and could also provide a platform for tax haven.
Mr Andeleki said that the onus was on the legal fraternity to take the lead in harmonizing the lacunas in the nation's supreme document.
"I understand the pronouncement by the President on the issue pertaining to the law and we take them very seriously. What develops the country is good laws and the Constitution is paramount and is the supreme law of the land and without a good
Constitution, we cannot develop the country," he said.
Mr Andeleki said having good laws was paramount to ensure that Zambia lives a democratic independent state."So, the pronouncement by the President elect is welcome to the legal fraternity and we want civility and we want the law to reflect what Zambia is in terms of civilization. We don't want police brutality, we don't want cadres in markets and bus stations to determine people's lives.
"Time where cadres were attacking innocent people is long gone, the UPND government will bring sanity in the nation," Mr Andeleki said.
He said that his first priority would be to open up the constituency through a proper road network.
"My first priority as a lawmaker is to deal with the issue of poverty because that is the biggest problem in my constituency. The constituency lacks roads and people have nothing to help themselves on agriculture Poverty is the number one enemy to my people in my constituency. I will ensure that the roads are opened up for people to have transport and be able to take their produce to the market. When that is done, it means that I am empowering my people," he said.
