Embrace all chiefs, HH urged

- By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

A DEVELOPMENT activist has appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to embrace all traditional leaders so that they can share information pertaining to development and national unity.

Mr Wesley Miyanda said all election related differences should be put aside as campaigns and elections were over.

Mr Miyanda said in an interview in Kitwe it was impossible to realise meaningful development in a situation where there was a big gap between traditional leaders and the government.

He said this was because the latter represented people in their respective chiefdoms and that the government was there to provide developmental services to the same people.

Mr Miyanda told the Daily Nation in Kitwe that the two needed to be seen hanging on the same page and not the opposite.

“The just ended August, 2021 general Elections were mainly characterized with a number of negativities on the lives of many Zambians.

“The country was almost getting divided due to people’s divergent political inclinations. The use of hurt speech, tribal or regional remarks by some politicians was ever at play with impunity,” he said.

Mr Miyanda reminded Zambians that the country had a people’s government in place which was mandated to run the national affairs.

He said this was more reason to spare some time, work and realize the country’s dreams.

Mr Miyanda further applauded Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people for urging all Bemba chiefs to fully support the new UPND government.

He said it was elating that the Mwine Lubemba had realised that traditional leaders were mandated to work with the government of the day in fostering unity and development.
