NEW GOVT WILL DELIVER, SAY LOCAL CONTRACTORS
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema will deliver his campaign promises which include alleviating poverty and promoting food security because of his sound economic policies some of which he articulated in his inaugural speech, says Consortium of Local Contractors and Allied Suppliers (ColCAS).
ColCAS President John Chilupula said President Hichilema had delivered an inspirational speech during his inauguration ceremony which had won the hearts of many people including members of the opposition.
In an interview in Kitwe at the weekend, Mr Chilupula said he was hopeful that he would come up with a team that would support him to implement the sound economic policies.
"President Hichilema delivered an inspirational speech during his inauguration ceremony and for me, I think that he needs support from Zambians, but the most important of all he needs a team that will help and support him to set the stage for economic recovery.
"We need to support him.
For us, suppliers and contractors, we need to support him by delivering projects on time. We would also like to see transparency in the awarding of contracts so that companies are given contracts on merit,'' Mr Chilupula said.
Mr Chilupula said he was hopeful that the government will refine various policies to suit the interests of local contractors and suppliers to enable them get big contracts.
He said having being in the opposition for a long time, President Hichilema will be able to put in place policies to ensure Zambians were liberated from poverty.
"President Hichilema is a politician who has been in the opposition for a long time and so he knows how Zambians are suffering and so, I am sure that he will work hard to liberate Zambians from the yoke of poverty and hunger. So let us support him.
"He has the interests of the local businessmen at heart, he has the interests of Zambians at heart.
The consortium is sure that his government will put in place measures to defend the interests of ordinary Zambians in various businesses,'' Mr Chilupula said.
