HH ON RIGHT TRACK BUT…

- Editor EPHRAIM SHAKAFUSWA.

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is on the right track but he needs a few lessons on diplomacy - how, when and why certain things should not be told to the rest of the world.

I figured that as an economist, he fully understands the ramifications of announcing that Zambia, a sovereign state, is operating on empty coffers.

Perhaps he wants to appeal to the good will of donor countr ies or he wants to , appear very hard working in future when he says he found the treasury empty but managed to grow the reserves.

However, isn’t he also dropping his own bargaining power when it comes to bilateral economic exchange?

Why would investors want anything to do with a country that has depleted natural resources, no money and a huge/ hidden debt?

Then again, we say that all nations are equal but when a Head of State announces how vulnerable his own nation is; what’s to stop other nations from manipulating him by offering crumbs in the name of aid?

When it comes to diplomacy vis-à-vis Zambia’s relations with the rest of the globe, more needs to be done. I agree with Sean Tembo to that extent.

I foresee a problem here. People are just cheering everything HH says and does. There’s no one offering objective checks and balances.

A lot of people in the Patriotic Front are still just loud dunderheads - bringing nothing to the table even in opposition. That’s why Highvie Hamududu and Sean Tembo will do better than PF in 2026.

Anyway we are still in a honeymoon period they say. It is a learning curve for future leaders of this great nation and the worst being - running this country like an extension of Katondo Street like my President did.

Good day and remain blessed for the rest of the day.
