Nkana appoint Mutafu new CEO

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

NKANA Football Club has appointed former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Treasurer Kelvin Mutafu as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Club President Joseph Silwamba confirmed the news in a statement issued by Nkana FC’s Public and Media Relations officer Lillian Musenge.

Silwamba is confident that Mutafu’s experience will add a lot of value to the Kitwe giants who will be seeking a 14th league title when the new Super League starts on September 11.

“Our new club CEO is a full package for this position as he comes in with experience from the corporate world where he held a very senior position at ZAFFICO as Chief Internal Auditor and the vast football knowledge at both club and FAZ level.

“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of my executive committee and on my own behalf to welcome the new CEO to Nkana,” Silwamba said.

He urged the Nkana Secretariat and other stakeholders who include the “ever supportive Nkana supporters” to give Mutafu all the support in his new role as CEO.

Silwamba urged the fans to continue being committed to supporting the club for the benefit of Nkana FC and Zambian football as a whole.

Meanwhile, Mutafu said he was equal to the task and was looking forward to working closely with everyone at Nkana for the benefit of the club.

“I am very delighted having to take up this position at Zambia’s most successful club. I know I have a huge task ahead but I am equal to the task. I am looking forward to working closely with everyone at Nkana, including the sponsors and the Nkana fans,” he said.

Mutafu takes over from club accountant Kapwepwe Mutale who held the position in an acting capacity since Charles Chakatazya left the club following the expiry of his contract late last year.

An accountant by profession, Mutafu was Forest Rangers Football Club chairman from 2000 to 2009 when he left employment at the Zambia Forestry Corporation and later appointed Treasurer at FAZ in the same year.

Mutafu was also part of the delegation, which won the AFCON 2012.
