‘Zanaco has no ghost workers’
ZANACO has denied the existence of ghost workers on its payroll.
Zesco has also denied having ghost workers on its payroll.
ZANACO Head of Communication, Veronica Nkolola said the bank’s payroll was not linked to that of the government.
Ms Nkolola said ZANACO did not have any ghost workers on its payroll.
“We wish to state this information is false and should be treated as such,” she said in a statement.
Ms Nkolola said the bank had a robust human resource database and a premises access system to identify staff who were linked to the payroll system.
She said the system was audited on a monthly basis.
And the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) said reports that there were 67 ghost workers at the authority were false
ZRA Corporate Communications Manager, Topsy Sikalinda said ZRA was a very sensitive organisation that cannot afford to have any ghost employees as alleged by the false story.
“The story about 67 ghost workers makes very sad reading. We are very disappointed that people can go to such an extent to malign ZRA which is working so hard to mobilise resources for the nation under very challenging circumstances,” he said.
Mr Sikalinda said all our employees were accounted for and present at their respective duty stations fully preoccupied with the responsibility of collecting revenue.
He challenged anyone who believed that ZRA had ghost workers to show proof and report to relevant authorities.
“This act of maligning the institution has the potential to erode taxpayer confidence in the country thereby affecting revenue collection. As an institution we remain focused on our mandate of mobilising revenue on behalf of the government as witnessed by our recent beating of this year’s target four months before the end of the year,” Mr Sikalinda said.
