‘CREATE OPENINGS FOR YOUTHS IN AGRO SECTOR’
THERE is a need to create opportunities for youths in the agriculture sector, Youth Movement for Positive Change media director Martin Nyirenda has said.
Mr Nyirenda said in an interview that YMP, a youth driven nonprofit, nonpartisan and nonreligious organisation is working with different stakeholders in engaging youths to take agriculture as a business by empowering them with farm inputs.
He said that youths especially in rural areas have plenty of land but do not know how to use it hence the organisation engages such youths by training them and later find stakeholders who in turn supply them with farming inputs.
He noted that the aim of the organisation is to build a devoted youth, and impact positively on national development.
“YMP is self-financing. It is the passion that is driving us to run the organisation that is the reason why membership is free.
“It is a youth-driven nonprofit, nonpartisan and nonreligious organisation working with different stakeholders in engaging youths to take agriculture as a business and as such we engage stakeholders to empower the youths,” he said.
Mr Nyirenda said that so far, there are 7, 000 youths on the organisation’s base who have qualified to be empowered.
He stressed that the government should just be making policies and youths take the first step in bettering their lives.
Mr Nyirenda said that youths should be drivers of the economy and that farming is one of the activities that can create employment for them rather than waiting for formal employment.
