Each household should contribute K10 to Treasury, says ZDDM

- By ADRIAN MWANZA

EVERY Zambian household should contribute at least

K10 to the treasury in order to help the country repay the various loans that were contracted by the previous government, says the Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM).

ZDDM vice president Charles Kafumbo said people should sacrifice that minimal amount for two months to help the treasury have enough money to repay the debts accrued by the previous government.

He said the debt trap if not properly dealt with, could choke the country and the general citizenry.

‘’Can you imagine how much we can raise if 10 million people contribute K10 for two months, the result would be significant and the treasury would have something to help repay the debt,’’ he said.

Mr Kafumbo said that the accrued debt was as a result of selfish individuals who borrowed for consumption and not for developmental purposes.

He said the AntiCorruption Commission (ACC) should freeze all accounts belonging to former ministers.

Mr Kafumbo said most former ministers had off shore accounts which needed to be investigated to ensure that no amount outside their earnings.

He was however quick to say that the relevant authorities needed not to be vindictive when conducting their investigations but ensure that only illegal funds were gotten from the culprits.

Mr Kafumbo said some former ministers were stealing with impunity and that it was only right for them to repay the funds and not being unfair to the future generations.
