Kabompo cries for expanded water supply

-

THE North-western Water and Sanitation Sewerage Company (NWWSC) has been urged to expand the water supply system as the district is growing.

Kabompo acting District Commissioner, Hendrix

Solochi, noted that the district has continued to expand and develop, hence the need to increase the water supply services to cater for the ever growing population.

He said this in Kabompo on Wednesday when NWWSC Managing Director, Happy Musumali, paid a courtesy call at the district administration office ahead of a stakeholders meeting.

“We would like to inform you that your services are appreciated by almost everyone here with a few challenges. However, we would also appeal for your institution to consider Kabompo in your future planning so as to extend the supply lines to the newly opened up places,” Mr Solochi said.

He said areas such as Kamwala, Mumbezhi and M-8 were some of the places which should be self-sustaining in terms of water supply.

Mr Solochi said lack of utility infrastructure has continued to impede on the development process of some of the areas in Kabompo district.

Meanwhile, Mr Musumali said the water utility company was aware of the needy areas of Kabompo and that a team has already been constituted to carry out feasibility studies under a project which will be funded by the African Development Bank (ADB).

He added that the institution would be engaging with the local authority to see how the water supply and sanitation service could be developed in the newly opened up areas.

“We are committed to see every household have access to quality clean water, so I will also be engaging our local authority to see how we can work together in ensuring newly opened up areas have access to water,” he said.

Mr Musumali stated that the utility company would soon open up water supply to individual households by connecting them to the newly installed main line at M-8 area in order to increase supply for those using the water schemes.

Mr Musumali and his team are touring the entire North-western province to hold stakeholder meetings to get submissions on proposed water tariff adjustment for the year.
