Making Gifting Truly Divine … Spend Wisely!

- Maria Karima Head - Corporate Affairs & Marketing Investrust Bank Plc Dear Reader,

We trust that you and your loved ones are well and that you are staying clear of Covid – 19 by adhering to all health guidelines shared by the Ministry of Health. However, please note that Covid -19 is real and that it is not yet over; we are all encouraged to continue being vigilant in ensuring that we control and ultimately stop spreading the Coronavirus.

Dear Reader, in today’s story, we share TIPS on how to be vigilant about the way we spend money unnecessarily, particularly on purchasing gifts for our loved ones. Setting base for our Financial Freedom (FF) journey means that we have to tighten any loose ends and seal any gaps that could be leading us to unwise spending. In effecting these ‘checks and balances’, the Good Money Management process takes us back to budgeting and spending only what we plan to spend no matter the gravity of pressure we may have to purchase gifts. Giving is a good thing to do, by all means, gift the people who are dear to you but responsibly do that, only spend money that you budgeted to use on gifts.

How Great Is A Great Gift?

Talking of gifts, dear Reader, a lot of thought goes into the decision making process regarding what to purchase for various special people in our lives. Some people have even gone to great strides in establishing what constitutes a great gift. Some believe that the value of a gift in monetary terms is what makes it great while others believe that handmade gifts are more sentimental because the planning and thinking that go into the creation of the gift is special. Finally, others believe that when it comes to determining the value of a gift, it is really the thought that counts and so it does not matter how much one spends. What are your thoughts?

Gifting The IBP Way

At Investrust Bank Plc (IBP), we believe that meaningful gifts are experiential! The golden rule when it comes to gifts is that they should make a person experience something that is life-changing. That way, the gift recipient will always remember and value it for the rest of their lives. In addition, people who receive such gifts feel more connected to the giver.

Wondering what to get for your loved ones to commemorate special moments in their lives? Wonder no more because at IBP, we have a solution for you. We have a great gift that is suitable for everyone! A gift that will truly change one’s life, making them super ready to face the world. What’s more? The recipient of the gift will remember you for life because you helped change theirs. Experiential gifts are particularly meaningful for kids, making them ideal tools for perfecting skills that will help them live quality lives in the future.

Earning, Spending, Saving, Investing and Giving Money

In essence, there are only five things that you can do with money; earn, spend, save, invest or give it away. For better appreciation of this story, we draw your attention to the spending aspect of money as the story focuses on spending wisely on gifts. The call to action here is that you spend within your means and only money you budgeted to use. As we plan to ‘Give’ going forward, let us do so in a responsible manner.

Just like with Saving, the amount of money you give away to help family or a charity should always be planned. A clever way to do this is to keep some money aside in a contingency fund for those ‘spur of the moment’ expenditures.
