‘Review procuremen­t procedures’

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema directed that procuremen­t procedures should be reviewed to curb corruption in the procuremen­t of Government tenders.

Mr Hichilema directed Vice President Mutale Naluumango and the Secretary to Cabinet to commence the process of adjusting the procuremen­t procedures.

He was speaking at State house yesterday after swearing in Cabinet, Provincial Ministers and other senior Government officials,

President Hichilema said under the UPND administra­tion, no project should cost more than its true cost.

He said no one should be allowed to use the procuremen­t system to deprive government of the resources meant to improve the living standards of the people.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema yesterday appointed and swore-in new Cabinet and Provincial Ministers and senior Government officials.

Among those appointed were Nangoma Member of Parlament Collins Nzovu as Minister of Green Economy, Elias Mubanga as Minister for Small and Medium Enterprise­s, Mumbwa MP Credo Nanjuwa as Central Province Minister and Robert Liefu as Minister for North-Western

Province. Others appointed are Bradford Machila as State House Principal Private Secretary, Dr. Oliver Kalabo as Permanent Secretary at State House, John Msimuko as Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Green Economy and Environmen­t, Jito Kayumba as Special Assistant for Economics and Developmen­t Affairs, while Lawrence Mwananyand­awa is Special Assistant for Projects and Monitoring and Dr. Roma Chilengi is Special Advisor for Covid-19.

And President Hichilema yesterday met with the United States Embassy Charge d'Affaires Mr. David J. Young who paid a courtesy call on him at State House.
