PF neglected Lusaka - Mongu Road, says MP
THEdilapidated Lusaka-Mongu Road was neglected by the PF-led Government, UPND Mongu Central Member of Parliament (MP), Oliver Amutike has said.
Mr Amutike said Western Province and its natural resources had a potential to provide a successful local economic zone in Zambia.
The Mongu Central legislature however said the actualisation of local economic activities in the region could not materialise because it required good road infrastructure which unfortunately the PF Government had neglected.
He said this in Parliament on Tuesday when he delivered his first maiden speech.
“The Lusaka-Mongu Road is the most neglected road by the PF Government. The stretch between Chateyoyo and Kaoma has for a long time remained a night mare for motorists,” Mr Amutike said.
He also expressed displeasure that the Kafue Bridge temporal structure that was erected to pave way for repairs of the main bridge had been turned into a permanent structure.
Mr Amutike said his vision was to woo investors that could set up industries in Mongu which would process raw materials into finished products.
“This will add value to raw material produced locally thereby creating jobs to our people in line with the vision of the UPND-led Government,” he said.
He explained that the creation of mango juice, rice, fish, timber and cassava processing factories was the best way to offer employment to the people of Mongu and the region at large.
Meanwhile, Mr Amutike has assured the people of Mongu Central Constituency that he would lobby for development in the area.
He pledged to be a torch bearer and that he was equal to the task in representing them in Parliament.
He also thanked the ruling UPND and election chairperson Gary Nkombo for adopting him to contest for Mongu Central Constituency.
“I would also like to thank the people of Mongu Central for giving me and President Hakainde Hichilema a resounding victory despite the Covid-19 restriction, “he said.
