ARROWS LAND IN ‘WAR ZONE’
ZAMBIA’senvoys in the CAF Confederatons Cup Red Arrows have set up camp in eSwatini ahead of Saturdays preliminary round, return leg fixture against Young Buffaloes at Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini.
Arrows confirmed in a statement that the team had arrived safely in eSwatini via an Air Forcé C27J Spatan Aircraft which the 19-member squad used to fly to eSwatini.
Arrows are eying to make it to the first round of the Confederations Cup as they travel to eSwatini to finish off their preliminary round tie against Young Buffaloes.
The Airmen are among the four teams that are representing the country in the CAF inter – club competition and had a winning start to their campaign following the 2-1 thumping of Young Buffaloes at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka thanks to midfielder, Felix Bulaya’s brace.
The other teams representing Zambia in the prestigious continental championships include Zambian champions Zesco United and Zanaco who are in the Champions League while Kabwe Warriors are competing in the Confederation Cup.
Arrows will need a goalless draw in Manzini to march to the next round of the continental competition where they will meet CD Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.
However the goal Arrows conceded at home may hurt them should they fail to score in Mbabane and allow their opponents to break their defence.
Coach Chisi Mbewe has maintained the same team that played the last game in the travelling party to eSwatini yesterday.
Mbewe has named a 19-member squad led by veteran striker James Chamanga among other players.
Meanwhile, Kabwe Warriors will play their continen
tal home game against CFFC of Madagascar at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola because their home pitch, the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadi
um in Kabwe does not meet the required CAF standards to host continental games.
Warriors will be looking to avoid conceding any goals in
the return leg fixture to proceed to the next round of the competition after picking a goalless draws in Madagascar.
