FIRING EVERYONE IS IRRATIONAL, SAYS CHIPENZI
DEMANDS that the UPND administration should fire everyone from the previous Government is not only irrational and retrogressive but also against the spirit of good governance, Governance expert McDonald Chipenzi has said.
He said while it was true that that the PF promoted lawlessness and practiced administration to the core in accordance with the provision of the party constitution by employing on partisan line, it would be unfair for the new government to do the same.
Mr Chipenzi said fear that the new appointees were vetted by the old system was not true because the UPND as a party is an institution that has been in existence for the past 23 years.
He said the UPND has its own system to vet officials.
“I find the demand on President Hichilema to fire all PF appointed government officials and diplomats almost immediately as irrational and against the spirit and tenets of good governance,” he said.
Mr Chipenzi said the reasons being advanced for such drastic measure was selfish and confrontational.
He said those calling for the firing of some people should remember that the new government has been in power for just a just a month out of the five years.
Mr Chipenzi said the new administration still needed more time to settle down before taking such an action.
“Those who have been appointed directors before to head an institution will agree that you don't just get into the institution and start overhauling staff overnight, because hiring and replacement is done gradually after due diligence,” Mr Chipenzi said.
