UPND CHALLENGED OVER PROMISES

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

THE UPND should fulfil promises made during campaigns as Zambians are quietly waiting to see how matters will unfold, the PF in North-Western Province has said.

PF provincial mobilisation chairman, Enoch Kapalu, said in an interview that the UPND made a lot of promises to Zambians especially the youths, which made them form government.

He said youths in particular turned up in large numbers to vote for the UPND with a view that they would be employed.

"The same youths are now waiting for the jobs they were promised, they are waiting for free education, reduction in commodity prices among other campaign promises the UPND made," Mr Kapalu said.

He said failure to fulfill the campaign promises, would haunt the ruling party in 2026.

Mr Kapalu however observed that the UPND was likely to fail to keep its promises to Zambians due to lack of clear policy direction.

"And that is why they have started backtracking on some of the things they promised”, he said.

He cited the free education policy, job creation, reduction in commodity prices, removal of cadres from bus stations and markets as some of the issues UPND was likely to fail to fulfill.

"Already, the vice president is on record indicating that free education is not attainable for now. Apart from that a senior UPND member in Lusaka is on record saying they are taking UPND cadre in bus stations and markets in the name of party branches.

"Just from that, you can tell that Zambians were wood-winked with fake campaign promises especially the youths," he said.

On the announced $18 million aid from USAID, Mr Kapalu said Zambians should not be excited about it because the country would pay back at the end of the day.

Mr Kapalu said such aid comes with a lot of conditions which at the end of the day will leave Zambians suffering.

"As Zambians we shouldn't be so excited with this socalled aid from USAID, it is us Zambians who will suffer at the end of the day," he said.
