Allow new govt present budget, Zambians advised
ZAMBIANS must not listen to undue criticism from disgruntled politicians, but allow the government to present the budget for them to start seeing the fruits of the 'New Dawn’ administration, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.
NDC Copperbelt chairman, Stephen Chewe, said members should continue defending President Hakainde Hichilema from frustrated opposition leaders who were bitter for nothing.
Mr Chewe was speaking when he received more than 400 defectors from the Socialist Party led by its losing candidate for Kankoyo constituency Ms Sharon Muyupa.
The 401 defectors from Kankoyo constituency in Mufulira were from nine wards, John Kampengele, Buntungwa, Fibusa, Mpelembe, Kwacha, Butondo, Bufuke, Luansobe and Kangwa
Nsuluka.
Mr Chewe encouraged the new members to work hard and contribute to the growth of NDC and feel at home because it was a democratic party.
"We would also like to encourage the NDC members to continue defending the Alliance President his excellence Hakainde Hichilema from those frustrated opposition leaders who are bitter for nothing that the budget at hand is still the Patriotic Front (PF) budget.
"Zambians should wait for the UPND Alliance budget for them to start seeing the fruits of the 'New Dawn government' of President Hakainde Hichilema,'' Mr Chewe said.
And Ms Muyupa said on behalf of defectors that they had decided to defect from Socialist Party to NDC because its leader Joseph Rikki Akafumba had shown humility.
"We thought we should join the NDC because the leadership of Mr Akafumba has inspired us, especially his humility. We are here to contribute to the growth of NDC. We want to contribute to taking this party to greater heights,'' Ms Muyupa said
And NDC Secretary General, Mwenya Musenge, said his party would continue party mobilisation in various to set the stage for a stronger NDC.
Mr Musenge, who had returned to NDC as a 'prodigal son' has again been appointed Secretary General to help revive the ailing party which has been split between the two factions of Saboi Imboela and Joseph Rikki Akafumba
Mr Musenge said the NDC members must work hard to bring good numbers the UPND Alliance in order to command respect in the alliance and eat together on one table
