Utilize ZCID for conflict resolution - Hamududu

- By GIDEON NYENDWA

GOVERNMENT should consider making use of the Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue (ZCID) by bringing different political parties together to talk about governance issues that are beyond the elections, Party for National Unity and Progress (PNUP) President Highvie Hamududu has said.

Mr. Hamududu said the government should take advantage of the platform that ZCID provides to bring to the table policy matters which can be discussed with the opposition who are one of the major stakeholders in a democracy.

He said the tendency of looking at the opposition as an enemy should come to an end because everyone wants to see a better Zambia at the end of the day.

“We have to stop this fighting between the party in power and the opposition all the time,” he said.

Mr. Hamududu said seeking counsel from the opposition would show that the government is willing to serve the people of Zambia better at all cost. He said ZCID will give a chance for all political parties to discuss and agree on matters that has been raising concern like how to avoid political interference in some government institutions by the party in power.

“Government interference in most public institutions had become common in all the past governments,” he said.

Mr. said if all political parties agree on some issues there would be no need to worry about the problem even if there is change of government.

He said issue of interference can not only be handled by the government alone but by the involvement of all political parties because that behavior starts at the political party level.

Mr. Hamududu said when the government reaches out to the opposition to talk even the opposition will always reach out to the government to talk about issues affecting the government.

He said Zambia is one because people come from the same communities and there are intermarriages within these circles so there is no need to behave like one political party is from heaven and another is from hell when it comes to politics.
