AG report discussions premature - Hamududu

- By KETRA KALUNGA

DISCUSSIONS of the Auditor General’s report is premature because the contents are raw and subject to scrutiny for remedial action, Party for National Unity and Progress leader, Highvie Hamududu has said.

Mr. Hamududu said there are procedures to deal with audit queries which should be respected instead of jumping to all manners of conclusions over the findings in the AG’s report.

He said in an interview that the report is yet to be scrutinised by Parliament through the Public Accounts Committee for remedial action.

Mr. Hamududu who once served on the PAC said there is need for people to respect process instead of discussing professional things such as the AG’s report in the streets.

"Let's not wash dirty linen in public, respect processes, allow the AG’s report to be scrutinised by Parliament through the Public Accounts Committee for remedial action instead of discussing professional things in the streets," he said.

He explained that the AG’s report is a raw material that is given to the executive and Public Accounts Committee to scrutinise by calling witnesses and make a report in parliament by recommending action to the executive.

Mr. Hamududu also said the revelations in the AG’s report is not an end but a means to an end, therefore, it would be premature for people to make conclusions.

"There is no need for people to be excited over revelations in the report so people must respect processes, it is a report that helps decision-makers to inform the processes in government.

"I don’t know why in this country we wash dirty linen in public, other countries don’t do that. There are AG reports in other countries but here we want to wash dirty linen in public, let the AG’s report go to the Public Accounts Committee and through it to Parliament and they make recommendations so that we are an orderly country not discussing professional things in the streets," Mr. Hamududu said.
