Crime scene expert maintains single bullet killed Nsama and Kaunda

- By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

A CRIME scene officer yesterday maintained that it was possible for a shooter standing at the entrance of Cabinet Office to have killed State Prosecutor Nsama Nsama Chipyoka who was at Pa Kabinet restaurant as an AK-47 has a maximum effective range of about 400 meters and its projectile can travel up to 800 meters.

During scene reconstruction yesterday, crime scene officer Henry Siyakanyati insisted that Mr Nsama and UPND member Joseph Kaunda were killed by a single bullet which came from the western direction and the shooter was standing at the cabinet office entrance.

This is in a matter where a police officer Fanwell Nyundu ,25, is charged with two counts of murder.

He is alleged to have shot dead the two men on December 23, 2020 when UPND supporters went to offer solidarity to President Hakainde Hichilema, then opposition leader when he appeared for questioning at Police Service headquarters over the acquisition of land in Kalomo.

When the matter came up for continued trial before Lusaka High Court Judge Joshua Banda, Mr Siyakanyati was put to task to demonstrate how the victims were killed.

When the court was moved to the crime scene, Mr Siyakanyati said that he arrived at a primary conclusion that the shooter was standing at the cabinet office entrance because that is where six cartilage casings where picked and one of them matched the exhibit fatal bullet.

He said the bullet moved in a straight line, hit Mr Nsama in left upper body and exited from the back and hit Mr Kaunda who was running in the head.

When quizzed by defence lawyer Willis Muhanga whether he checked the cameras around the Cabinet Office area during his investigation, Mr Siyakanyati stated that the camera near the entrance was not working at the time. Trial continues.
