‘DON’T POLITICISE STUDENT MEAL ALLOWANCES’

- By AARON CHIYANZO

MEAL allowances for UNZA students should not be a political issue as is being propagated by the new dawn government with promises only aimed at appeasing learners, Chinsali Member of Parliament Kalalwe Mukosa has said.

Mr Mukosa said the removal of meal allowances was well-intended as evidenced by the number of students benefiting from student loans and scholarships.

He said in an interview that the old system where only one family member benefitted from the government’s bursary program was a poor state of affairs.

Mr Mukosa said the new dawn government was politicking with fake promises of bringing back meal allowances.

He said the new government acknowledged that it was gratifying to the nation to see more students benefiting from student loans.

Mr Mukosa said the UPND government was only trying to appease the students with fake promises which had remained a song.

“Meal allowances for UNZA students should not be a political issue. The UPND government are just politicking with fake promises of bringing back meal allowance aimed at appeasing the students. We now have many students benefitting from student loans and scholarships because of that move,” he said.

And Mr Mukosa urged the new dawn government to embrace PF policies which were progressive if they were to succeed.

He said the appetite to do away with all PF programmes would lead the UPND government into making regrettable decisions.

Mr Mukosa said there was no need to portray a picture that everything under the PF regime was wrong when it was not the case.
