Kitwe Vocational Training Centre gets US$ 4.7m support
GOVERNMENT has signed a US$ 4.7 million through the support from Japan among other partners to fully equip the Kitwe Vocational Training Centre.
According to the Ministry of Technology and Science, the financing is meant to fully equip the college so that the levels of skills are elevated.
Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati said that skills development was one of the new dawn government's major delivables.
Mr Mutati said this would lift the spirits and support future employees and entrepreneurs.
He also said that using the skills development funds, government was putting in K 900, 000 to rehabilitate the hostels at the institution.
“We will see to it that students acquire the best skills to work on heavy duty mining equipment, underground equipment in the mining and construction sectors.
“Our aims is also to recruit about 500 youths regardless of their academic qualifications but ability, so that they can be equipped with many skills," he said.
The minister added that the government would generate jobs through equipping of skills training institutions.
He said that the government had set aside USD 5 million and USD 13 million from the cooperating partners for infrastructure development and fully equip students on various innovations and applications at the ICT college of excellence in Ndola.
Mr Mutati said over USD 2 million was set aside by the African Development Bank and Volvo trucks to support equipment at the Northern Technical College in Ndola.
He said this would help to create quality jobs in the country and secure the future.
