APOLOGISE TO ZAMBIANS, UPND TOLD

…for having made several unattainable promises while in opposition - Mwanza

- By NATION REPORTER

THE UPND Government should apologise to Zambians for having made several unattainable promises which are now haunting them, says Citizen Democratic Party president Robert Mwanza.

Mr Mwanza said the pending fuel and electricity hikes shows how unachievable the promises were which the ruling party made during campaigns towards the August 12 general election.

He said in an interview that the UPND administration might have a challenge to govern the country because citizens were agitated as they felt cheated.

Mr Mwanza said the unattainable promises made during campaigns were now haunting the ruling party and the best thing for them to do was to apologise to the citizens.

“People now are expectant and for UPND to start speaking in reverse, I think it doesn’t add up. They will have the challenge to govern this country because the number of promises that they made and what is obtaining on the ground as at now, are at variance.

“So, UPND should just come out and be honest with themselves. If it means apologizing to the people that we didn’t know what we’re talking about, they might as well do that. Unlike agitating people, because nobody is happy about the current situation,” Mr Mwanza said.

He cautioned politicians to avoid making promises and pronouncements that could not be fulfilled to get into office because that might backfire.

“What is happening to UPND should teach us a lesson as politicians. When you know that you would have an opportunity to form government one day, put things in the right perspective, unlike playing politics all the time. What is causing acrimony now is because of pronouncements that were made by the UPND while in opposition,” he said.

“Already we have power cuts which has increased, Indeni has been shut down, whether for good reason or not, and we are concerned because we don’t know the implication of that.

“This is the first time we are having Indeni shut down completely. I think UPND has not been sincere with the people of Zambia. The day they are going to learn to be sincere, the better for them,” Mr Mwanza said.
