I’m a target - Kamba

- By SIMON MUNTEMBA

MUCH as we all want to rebrand the Patriotic Front, singling out Lusaka Province executive committee as having caused the loss of the party in the just ended general elections is not fair, suspended provincial chairperson Kennedy Kamba has said.

Mr Kamba wondered how possible it was that his executive committee would have led to the PF loss in Southern, Eastern, Western, and North-Western provinces.

In an interview, Mr Kamba said he felt targeted and that the party wanted to use him as a scapegoat because it was illogical for anyone to claim that the Lusaka provincial executive committee was dissolved for causing the electoral defeat through indiscipline and caderism.

His comment comes after acting PF Secretary-General Nickson Chilangwa said the dissolution of the Kennedy Kambaled Lusaka provincial executive committee was the beginning of the rebranded PF to stop indiscipline which partly cost the former ruling party victory in the last elections.

Mr Chilangwa, who last week dissolved the provincial committee citing indiscipline among its members and the fact that the party lost elections in the province, said the rebranded PF shall eschew thuggery and caderism which cost them the last general election.

But Mr Kamba said the decision to dissolve his team was unfair and intended to ensure that preferred candidates were barred from contesting various positions, including the presidency, at the party’s national convention slated for next year.

“Look, we lost in Southern, Eastern, Western, Central and North-Western provinces. So does it mean that the Lusaka Province committee was responsible in all those provinces? Why are these provincial executive committees not dissolved? I think we are just targeted,” Mr Kamba said.
