MMD die-hard national coordinator faces expulsion

- By SIMON MUNTEMBA

THE MMD New Hope youths have distanced themselves from calls for the resignation of their party president, Dr Nevers Mumba by die-hard national coordinator, Rupiah Muyunda.

They have instead recommended the expulsion of Mr Muyunda for allegedly undermining Dr Mumba and putting the name of the party into disrepute.

On Sunday, Mr Muyunda, who is also MMD New Hope Munali Constituency chairperson, said Dr Mumba should resign and call for a convention because the party general membership had lost confidence in his leadership.

But MMD youth spokesperson Carol Mushota said the young people in the party did not agree with his statement because they were never consulted.

In an interview, Ms Mushota said the young people support Dr Mumba’s leadership.

“He purports to have spoken on behalf of the other youths in the party but at no point did we as the youth executive sit down to agree on his statement. We as the youth of MMD New Hope rally fully and confidently behind our leader, Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba,” she said.

She accused Mr Muyunda of having fallen victim to his personal financial challenges to embark on a destructive path of disrespecting the party leadership.

“The Party has policy, it has protocol and conflict resolutions order that Mr Muyunda has not followed. It is very clear from the information we have that he has fallen victim to his personal financial challenges and he has decided to stoop so low to be driven by selfish motives to discredit our party, our leader and our values,” Ms Mushota said.

She disclosed that the youth have recommended for stiff disciplinary action against Mr Muyunda.
