U-19 national futsal team to regroup

THE Zambia Under-19 national futsal team will next week meet for their first ever camp this yeah ahead of the Eight Nations Croatia Futsal Championsh­ip scheduled for June 2022.

In an interview, national coach Andrea Cristofore­tti said he was happy in his new role as coach responsibl­e for the developmen­t of all futsal players in the country.

Cristofore­tti said he was looking forward to his first ever meeting with the Under-19 squad who will represent Zambia in Croatia.

"Next week we will meet for the first under-19 national team camp which is great. I'm happy about it. They have invited us at the end of June in Croatia for a very big tournament, an eight-nations tournament for the under-19 and that is also complieent­ed with a Fifa Futsal Congress and more than 1, 000 people are going to participat­e from all over the world," Cristofore­tti said.

He is hoping that funds will be available for the Croatian games which will give the Zambian team the exposure needed for their growth.

Cristofore­tti is happy that the Football Associatio­n of Zambia (FAZ) Premier Futsal League (PFL) has continued to impact positively on the developmen­t of the sport in the country.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Avengers moved to fourth on the FAZ-PFL table after beating Livingston­e Pirates 10-4 in a Week-8 fixture at Automotive Indoor Futsal Arena.

The win propelled Avengers to 10 points, 12 points behind the league leaders Automotive FA who beat Chipata Boys 9-1 to move to 22 points.

Kitwe Bullets maintained third position on the log after beating BS Stars 7-5 in an intriguing fixture.

Meanwhile, newcomers Kafue Celtics continued to struggle and recorded their second defeat losing 5-2 to second-placed Kabwe K-Line.

CSS Petauke moved to fifth after overcoming Siavonga Beetles 9-8 in a tightly contested match.

In the National Division One league, Mthunzi Mufana beat Sable Bulls 6-0 while Lilanda Bullets beat Kafue Saints 6-0.

Veterans were 6-4 victors over Blue Bombers while George FC and Mthunzi recorded a 9-9 stalemate.
