LUO SLAMS HYPOCRITICAL CHURCHES, CSOs

- By NATION REPORTER

THE deafening silence from ‘vocal’ churches and Civil Society Organisations on the persecutions of PF members and illegal actions by Speaker of the National Assembly attests to the hypocrisy among such organisations, PF official, Professor Nkandu Luo has said.

Prof Luo said she was shocked that church mother bodies and Civil Society Organisations that were vocal and continually criticised PF when it was in power had gone mute despite a number of illegalities going on under the new government.

She wondered what had changed, a case in point being the issue of the move by the Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti who allegedly breached the constitution by chasing nine PF MP’s whose seats had been nullified but applied.

‘’I want to call on the church and civil societies to speak with the same vigour they did when we were in government over some issues that are currently going on in the country which were extremely wrong,’’ She said.

Prof Luo said that the two stakeholders played a key role hence they needed to come out of their hiding and speak for the sake of justice in the country.

She said the silence was outright hypocrisy and that it was not right because the country was experiencing a number of persecutions on members of the former ruling party.

Professor Luo said that even the actions by the Speaker was a breach of the constitution because she was in a similar predicament back in 2016 and that she was allowed to attend her Parliamentary duties after she appealed her nullification.

‘’In 2016 Lusaka High Court Judge Edward Musona overturned my election citing electoral irregularities and rampant acts of violence as reasons for nullification of the Munali seat but I appealed and I continued to serve until I was duly elected,’’ she said.

Professor Luo challenged the churches not to be biased but have the same vigour to denounce what was going on regardless of the party in power.
