“We are aware that the wind which swept through the area caused some damage not only to structures but food as well. Hence, we are giv ing this mealie meal so that you can have some thing to eat as you recover,” he said.

Mr Mugala has however called on local people to build strong structures to avoid such calamities.

He said in an interview that the incident left 12 houses damaged as their roofs were blown off blown off.

“On Friday, around 23:00 hrs to 24:00 hours, there was strong wind in our area and people were left shocked as their houses collapsed and their iron sheets blown off,’’ he said.

Mr Muteba has since appealed to DMMU to help the community with necessary items to help them recover from the shock.

And one of the victims, Patricia Mugeleshi said people affected are mostly sleeping in thatched huts because their houses collapsed.

“We are not living well as our houses collapsed due to strong winds we experienced on Friday, so my family is spending nights in open huts,” Ms Mugeleshi said.

She has also called on government to provide them with roofing sheets as most of the affect ed families can only manage to mould bricks for constructing new houses.
