Teachers fatigued, demotivated – Association

MANY teachers are tired and demotivated by the many ills that they continue to face in their work and are now turning to God for supernatural intervention, a teachers’ pressure group, Teachers National Revolutionary Movement ( TEREMO) has said.

In an interview, TEREMO national coordinator, Steward Bwembya observed that the teachers have been disappointed with the teachers’ unions which have failed to represent their plight.

Mr Bwembya said teachers’ unions were not doing enough to ensure that pertinent issues such as automatic salary upgrades for teachers who upgrade their qualifications were facilitated.

He said that the movement has continued to call for the seven teacher unions’ amalgamation to form one strong voice, but this has failed.

Mr Bwembya said the movement would continue to pursue its agenda using available constitutional means and that as a pressure group, they will not abrogate the law, but will seek amicable ways of airing their grievances.

Mr. Bwembya, who teaches at Lamba Day Secondary School in Mushindamo, disclosed that the movement was turning to God for divine intervention.

“There will be a day of national prayers and fasting for God’s intervention on the opening of treasury authority by the Ministry of Finance and national planning for all public service workers particularly teachers.

“This will be done in our individual homes from 06:30 to 18:00 hours on Friday, December 31, this year,” he said.

Mr Bwembya said the treasury authority opening will facilitate the following: new IDs, automatic upgrade, accommodate 30, 000 teachers and 11, 000 health workers to be employed, more and actual scale restructuring, actual departmental funding, posthumously retire and promote and pay officers in right salary scales among other things.

He said that these issues once resolved would motivate thousands of civil servants who were fatigued and unmotivated.
