Ministry Officials Mislead PAC - Mambwe
…as the Kalumbila MultiPurpose Cooperative Society chairperson calls on govt to clean up the ‘system’
SOME compromised officials from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts deliberately misled the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) by giving false information on failed Higer Buses empowerment initiative as a way of shifting blame on innocent cooperatives, Chilekwa Mambwe has said.
And Mr Mambwe, who is Chairman General for Kalumbila Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, one of the Cooperatives which benefitted from Higher Buses Youth Empowerment initiative has urged the new dawn administration to not only target politicians who were in the past regime in its fight against corruption but also focus on some people in the “system” who had done a lot of disservice to the nation.
He said in an interview that some officials from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts deliberately misled PAC with wrong information to hide their mishandling of the empowerment programme.
Mr Mambwe emphasised on the need to clean up what he termed as a ‘system’ if the fight against corruption was to yield results.
“There is a lot of dirty surrounding the Higer Bus Saga which has already been presented to the Permanent Secretary and the Minister. If this matter is not well investigated most of the fourth coming government empowerment programmes won't be guaranteed success. The same corrupt elements who wrote a fake report to PAC and wanted to mislead the PS may continue to mislead the new dawn government. There is need for a serious clean up in the system and as an organisation we are ready to give all the information we have with regards to the Higer Buses' Saga,” Mr Mambwe said.
