GOVT U-TURN ON RUSSIA STANCE SHOCKING - KABIMBA

- By ADRIAN MWANZA

THEmove by gov ernment to shun the United Nations Council on Human Rights to suspend Russia from the council is shock ing and an indication that government does not have a good foreign policy, Economic Front President, Wynter Kabimba, has said.

Mr Kabimba said it was shocking that the same gov ernment which voted against Russia less than two months ago had made a U-turn all of a sudden.

He said it was an indica tion that the government did not know what they were do ing and that they were on the verge of making a very big blunder. “It’s shocking that the government has decided not to vote in the suspension of Russia when they indicated they did not support the move by Putin,” he said.

Mr Kabimba said that the move was also an indication that the government did not have any morality as they were scared of sanctions.

He said they wanted to ap pease both the NATO coun tries and the Soviet state hence the decision to abscond the meeting.

And National Democratic Change (NDC) president

Saboi Imboela in an interview echoed Mr Kabimba’s state ment saying it was shocking that they had made a U-turn over the matter.

She said that Zambia’s first stance was the best and that there was no need to change because Russia had commit ted a number of atrocities.

Ms Imboela said that the problem was that the govern ment was scared of the sanc tions that could arise if they decided to vote against Russia.

“That’s the problem when the country is too dependent on aid, they can’t make deci sions but would end up being compromised because they want to save face,” she said.
