ZICTA embarks on a nationwide campaign against digital fraud
THE Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) says it has em barked on nationwide sen sitisation campaign against digital fraud.
Acting Director in charge of Consumer Protection and Information Management, Garry Mukelabai, says the campaign is aimed at restoring sanity in digital financial trans actions, across the country.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mukelabai was speaking at Kashitu market in Kalabo dis trict of Western province when he addressed mobile money operators in the area.
Recently , a number of unsuspecting citizens , institu tions and organisations have lost colossal sums of their hard earned funds from unscrupu lous mobile money agents.
And ZICTA Corporate Communications Manager Hanford Chaaba disclosed that incidents of financial scam ming through mobile money transactions were on the increase.
Meanwhile, Kalabo District Commissioner Musangu Njamba disclosed that his of fice has continued to record cases of financial fraud.
Mr Njamba bemoaned that the scourge is a source of worry to government, consumers and members of the general public.
He was speaking when a team comprising of officials from ZICTA and Bank of Zambia paid a courtesy call on him.
And Bank of Zambia (BOZ) Manager in charge of Payment Systems Oversight Akabiwa Kalimukwa bemoaned the high levels of financial illitera cy among members of the pub lic in general and consumers in particular. Mobile money agents in Kalabo district have since commended ZICTA and Bank of Zambia for embarking on the sensitisation campaign especially in rural areas where access to information is limited.
