FINLAND KEEN TO HELP ZAMBIA
FINLAND has indicated that it is keen to explore cooperation opportunities with Zambia. This is according to the Finland Deputy Minister for International Trade, Nina Vaskunlahti.
Ms Vaskunlahti noted that the relationship between Zambia and Finland had evolved to a more tradeoriented one.
She said this at the bilateral meeting with Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu, in Lusaka.
“The European Union is in the process of preparing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Zambia on a forestry partnership to be signed at a high level session of the UN Biodiversity Conference in Kunming, China between 25th April and 8th May, 2022,” she said.
In response, Mr Nzovu has commended the Finnish Government for the support it had been rendering to Zambia over the years particularly in the area of environmental protection.
Mr Nzovu said the Zambian Government also acknowledged the friendship and bilateral development cooperation which spanned over 50 years between the countries which kept expanding for mutual benefits.
Mr Nzovu said Zambia had noted Finland’s strong expertise in environmental and natural resources management over the years.
“I wish to state that it is the desire of the New Dawn Government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema to transform Zambia’s economy based on Green Growth Development Pathways as exemplified in the creation of the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment,” he said.
He further said, Zambia is eager to learn from Finland as the country seeks to transition into low carbon emission processes, Green Growth Pathways and sustainable management of forests and other natural resources.
