Mushindamo director survives suspension bid

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

THERE was drama at Mushindamo Council when some councilors proposed to have the director of works, Mulala Libombela, suspended from the ordinary full council meeting.

The move was prompted by Mr Libombela’s failure to appear before the sub committee on Plans, Works, Development and Real Estates (PWDRE) to explain why most Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects have stalled in the district.

Musaka ward councillor Roderick Fulanswa stood on a point of order to have Mr Libombela suspended and was seconded by Kilumba ward councilor Antony Muteba.

And Mujimanzovu ward councillor Aaron Kamanda wondered why works at Kalomboshi and Misangwa primary schools have delayed to be completed.

He disclosed that the two projects are still at footing level since last year despite some funds being allocated.

“It is only a few weeks ago when we saw the contractor coming with air events, but we are wondering why the projects have stalled,” said Mr Kamanda.

And chief Musaka also cited a 1x3 classroom block at Yowela secondary school which he said was billed at K320,000 but that only K50,000 was given to the contractor last year.

He also wondered why the contractor has not been allocated with enough funds to complete the project.

And Mushindamo Council chairperson Peter Ilunga said the main CDF funded projects have not been completed due to the failure by the council to provide enough resources to contractors as well as supervising and monitoring them.

However, the suspension was countered by Kalilele ward councilor Gladys Kashimoto and was seconded by Chief Kikola.

She asked Mr Libombela to give assurance to the councilors as to when the projects will be completed.

And Mr Libombela in response assured the councilors that projects would be completed as soon as possible provided the CDF committee allocated enough funds to the projects.

He said the delay in the completion of projects was due to inadequate allocation of funds to projects.
