Attacks getting out of hand

- Dear Editor, MINNIE PHIRI.

MY helper was attacked on her way home, a Mitsubishi Pajero stopped in front of her and tried to take her phone. They also hit her with a metal rod and left her injured.

She came to work the next day and was literally trembling. I gave her days off from work to get better and recover from the trauma.

I appreciate that even after that ordeal she gathered the strength to come to work but shame, she was in no shape to work.

One of my employees was attacked on her way to the office and they made off with a work laptop and phone, the attackers were in a Toyota Alion.

A few days ago in Olympia, as I was driving to a hair appointment I witnessed a lady being mugged. The young man was walking very closely behind her and she didn’t notice because she had headphones in. As soon as the coast was clear he grabbed her phone and ran off. Luckily some guys were able to grab him and retrieve the phone. The lady was in shock though. I hope she is okay.

I have read about a few abduction cases online as well as a few home invasions and it is very clear that there is a very high crime rate in Lusaka.

What is the government willing to do about this before it gets worse? None of us are safe!! Whether you live in the suburbs or the townships, we are all vulnerable at this point.

Do we not have enough military personnel to be deployed for patrol around the city to make sure the streets are safe and perhaps have these criminals apprehended and made examples of?

These cases have been reported to the police but they do little to nothing about it.
