CBU dons call off protest
LECTURERS at the Copperbelt University (CBU) have called off their strike and urged management to come up with a reasonable salary increment offer when they resume negotiations today for purposes of concluding the 2022 collective bargaining process.
On two occasions, management has called the lecturers back to the negotiating table by offering an additional one percent and one and half percent respectively, which the lecturers rejected and described it as a mediocre increment while insisting on their 12 percent salary increment demand.
Copperbelt University Academicians Union (CBUAU) General Secretary Willie Ngosa said the unionised academic staff have called off their protest to create a conducive environment for learning in the university as management and the union resume negotiations today.
“Following the decision by the unionised academic staff to call off the protest and resume negotiations, the union was urging management to come to the table with a reasonable salary increment offer for purposes of concluding the 2022 collective bargaining process,’’ Mr Ngosa said.
Mr Ngosa said in a staement to the CBUAU members that the decision to call off the protest and resume negotiations was the outcome of the meeting that was held with the Minister of Education on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Last week, the meeting between the lecturers and management to resolve a salary increment impasse failed to yield desirable results as the lecturers rejected an additional one and half percent which management had brought to the table.
