Chief Mumena donates land for construction of school
CHIEF Mumena of the Kaonde people in Kalumbila has donated five hectares of land for construction of Namusanchila community school for vulnerable and special needs children.
Chief Mumena said the idea of coming up with the school was spearheaded by Chilombo Ntambu, a young lady who was born visually impaired.
“Chilombo is a very visionary young lady from a supportive family. Blind from birth but she has a vision to see to it that vulnerable children have a better life,” he said.
The traditional leader was speaking during a fundraising luncheon for the construction of Namusanchila special community school in the district held at Mumena community hall under the theme: ‘Let’s hope, let’s build and let’s empower’.
He said the vision is to put up a school with boarding facilities and must be self-sustaining.
“Life is about supporting one another. As a chiefdom we have donated five hectares of land in the Shimabila area, one of the plans is to build a poultry unit to generate funds,” chief Mumena said.
He also said the Lumwana Community Trust where he is chairperson has set aside funds for the construction of a 1 by 3 classroom block for the school.
Speaking at the same event North-Western Province Minister, Robert Lihefu said there is need for expansion of education service delivery especially for vulnerable children.
Mr Lihefu said the need to provide quality education to vulnerable children cannot be over emphasized.
“It is a well-known fact that education is an equalizer, it is a bridge between the poor and the rich as it provides equal opportunities,” he said in a speech read on his behalf by Kalumbila district Commissioner Brenda Sankisa.
Mr Lihefu said government has created an enabling environment for the private sector and communities to participate in providing quality service delivery.
“A well-educated community will participate effectively in shaping our governance system at all levels and foster development of our nation,” he said.
