PF mourns Chikwanda

…He was a source of strength to former President Edgar Lungu, says Lubinda

LATE Alexander Chikwanda was a great source of strength and inspiratio­n to former President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu who from time to time sought counsel owing to the late veteran’s vast knowledge and experience in statecraft, Patriotic Front (PF) acting president Given Lubinda has said.

Mr Lubinda said the former minister of Finance was also an oasis of wisdom who used his long and many years in public service and party politics to give counsel and guidance and calm the situation whenever there were problems in the former ruling party.

“Of particular note, Mr Chikwanda was a great source of strength and inspiratio­n to former President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu who from time to time sought counsel owing to the late veteran’s vast knowledge and experience in statecraft,” he said.

Mr Lubinda said in a statement that as a party founding member and one of the longest serving senior member, Mr Chikwanda closely worked with other members of the central committee from its formation right through to the time of his death.

“He was an indestruct­ible pillar and a protective shield whom we all looked up to for guidance and direction in times of crisis,” said Mr Lubinda.

He also said Mr Chikwanda served the country in various ministries and portfolios throughout his long and illustriou­s political career, adding that his legacy and contributi­ons to national developmen­t will remain unparallel­ed.

He said Mr Chikwanda will always be missed by the party because of his kindness and generosity who spent a fortune of his hard earned resources financing the PF.
