MIGHTY HOPE

…Mufulira Wanderers not giving up on Super League promotion

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

WITH one game remaining to compete in the Eden University FAZ Division one league, “Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers is still hopeful of winning promotion to the MTN/FAZ Super League ahead of Nchanga Rangers.

Wanderers will face Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy in their final league fixture at President Stadium in Kabwe.

Mufulira Wanderers Football Club president George Katongo said anything can happen in the final games for “Mighty” to bounce back to the Super League.

“Football being what it is anything is possible. We are treating the last game as important as the others and once it is played we will chart the way forward.

“For now, it is a crucial one and we have to apply ourselves very well and we are equal to the task. Who knows maybe it can go the other way round and we are so positive about it,” Katongo said.

Katongo urged their players not to drop the guard going into the final fixture which is a must-win for the Mufulira outfit to win promotion to the Super League.

“The boys know what is at stake. It is just a reminder to them that they should not drop the guard, we should continue soldiering on,” he said.

Katongo however noted that failure to win promotion to the Super League will not spell the end for “Mighty” who have competed in the lower league since 2017.

He said Wanderers have learnt a lot of lessons which would be used to bounce back soon if the club fails to finish ahead of Nchanga Rangers this season.

“Mighty” are fifth on the division one league table with 53 points, three points behind Nchanga Rangers who will need a draw on Saturday to return to the Super League.

“Mighty” are seeking to join Lumwana Radiants, MUZA and Napsa Stars who have already won promotion to the Super League and will pray for Rangers’ defeat while hoping to pick maximum points against Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy to clinch their promotion.
