‘WE’RE NOT GOING BACK’

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

AFTER winning promotion from the Eden University FAZ Division one League, Napsa Stars players says they will not return to the lower league as they look forward to compete in the MTN/FAZ Super League.

Napsa Stars captain Luka Banda described their campaign in the Eden league as a tough experience which players are not willing to go through again.

Speaking after picking the club’s player of the season award during the award gala held on Friday night, Banda however noted that competing in the Eden league taught the players a lot of valuable lessons which will help the team as it returns to playing in the top flight league.

The central defender who is among the only two players to be selected for national team duty from the National Division One league said the Pensioners would work hard to finish in a position which would ensure that the team competes in the CAF interclub championships.

“Our performance in the CAF Confederations Cup last time we participated was very good because everyone worked hard but we didn’t focus on the league so we have to concentrate as we return to the super league

“Division one is not easy and it taught us a lot of things and we can’t wish to go back to division one so we have to work hard if top one will be tough to attain then at least top four will be good,” Banda said.

Meanwhile, goal keeper Rodwel Mukwanya who scooped the Young player of the year award and the Director General’s recognition award said the Pensioners are not intimidated by the return to the Super League where they will face stiff competition.

“I am very happy to have won the two awards and I thank God for everything he has done for me this season,” Mr Mukwanya.

And Kenya defender David Odiambo who was voted as the most disciplined player of the season said they would not make the same mistakes which caused them to suffer relegation from the Super league during the 2020/2021 soccer season.
