- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

AS an organisation, we would like to celebrate the life of the late Senior Chief Kanongesha for his contribution to the preservation and promotion of culture and the Lunda tradition, the Forum for African Traditional Authorities of Zambia (FATAZA) has said.

FATAZA General Secretary Chief Ishima said in an interview that Senior Chief Kanongesha will not only be remembered as a unifier but also as a traditional leader who preserved customs, values, artifacts among other things.

He said through his traditional ceremony called Chisemwa cha Lunda, Senior Chief Kanongesha brought different people from all walks of life.

Chief Ishima said he will also be remembered as a development-oriented traditional leader who initiated various developmental projects in his chiefdom.

He said he (Kanongesha) promoted government programmes especially among them the eradication of early marriages, keeping girls in school, gender based violence among others.

“Senior Chief Kanongesha was also one of key persons that supported the formation of FATAZA, he was very instrumental,” said Chief Ishima.

He has appealed to the people of North- Western Province especially the youth to emulate the late chief by promoting and preserving their culture.

Chief Ishima said as a traditional leader, he is disappointed that most North-Westerners do not even have time to visit palaces of their traditional where they come from.

He said most of them are just busy on social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp discussing issues that cannot materialise.

“So, we would want them to be real and promote their various cultures and traditional norms,” he said.

Senior Chief Kanongesha died on Sunday at his palace and will be put to rest on Friday at the royal burial site.

Senior Chief Kanongesha was also one of key persons that supported the formation of FATAZA, he was very instrumental,” said Chief Ishima.
