PILATO BLASTS ACC

…. Accuses commission of using social media to go after people

- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

AGRAFT fight that does not lead to convictions and recovery of stolen public resources is noth ing but a mockery to the people of Zambia, Good governance activist Fumba Chama aka Pilato has charged.

In a blistering Facebook post, Mr Chama said the ACC in its current form can easily be described as practical jok ers not deserving the respect of citizens.

Pilato said the ACC should sober up and take responsi bility for the many expected acquittals adding that the people of Zambia are not go ing to blame the suspects, or the judiciary but the commis sion for the half-baked investigations.

Pilito said recently, the same ACC announced to the nation that a certain ward councilor had bought a commercial bank for K 300 Million and only to come back without shame to say they had wrong information.

He said a professional en tity cannot operate based on social media drama and ru mors, the way ACC is doing.

“A professional entity can not operate on social media drama and rumors the way ACC is doing. We remember how they called for a media briefing and announced that a certain ward councilor had bought a commercial bank for K 300 Million. They abused our trust,” he said.

He said because of the unprofessional conduct by the ACC, a citizen, Mwewa Chitambala has been sued by one ward councilor af ter running the story on his Facebook page.

Pilito also wondered why the ACC wants to appear to be fighting corruption by ar resting and harassing former Tourism Minister Ronald Chitotela whom they sat down with and entered into some form of agreement.

He said while the fight against corruption needs ev eryone’s support, the ACC has let the people of Zambia down through their conduct.

Pilito also accused the ACC of compromising the Chamba Valley case involving Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo and won dered who was misleading them.

He appealed to the ACC chairperson and Director General to start by investigat ing the incompetence within the commission as demand ed by Munir Zulu and others who have made serious al legations against some ACC officials.

“Zambians now we are be ginning to believe that the ACC officials are highly and dangerously compromised,” he said.
