IMPLEMENTATION OF PENSIONS REFORMS EXCITES NUMAW
IT is gratifying to note that government is already taking significant steps to imple ment the pension reforms which include workers hav ing a partial access to the pension benefits before they can retire, National Union of Miners and Allied Workers (NUMAW) National Treasurer Saul Simujika has said
Mr Simujika said his union was impressed that the im plementations of the pension reforms had started bare ly two weeks after President Hakainde Hichilema had hinted on pension reforms that would enable the work ers access part of their money to invest in business and build homes for themselves .
Mr Simujika was reacting to the statement by Minister of Labour and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba during the opening of the Tripartite Consultative Labour Council in Lusaka that government had reached an advanced stage in undertaking consul tations regarding the review of the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) Act.
The NUMAW National Treasurer said the decision by the New Dawn administration to take significant steps to im plement the pension reforms which include workers having a partial access to the pension benefits before they can retire was a clear indication that it was a listening government.
"Well, it is gratifying to hear from the Minister of Labour that government is already taking significant steps to im plement the pension reforms which include workers having partial access to their pensions benefits even before they can be retired.
"As NUMAW, it is good that within few weeks after President Hichilema talked about pension reforms, things are already happening. This is impressing,'' Mr Simujika said.
