Remove ACC, DEC from Executive

….otherwise corruption fight would always be perceived as witch-hunt

- By KETRA KALUNGA

REMOVE the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) from the executive, failure to which the fight against corruption will always be seen as a vengeful approach to pursue former officials in the PF regime, Citizen Democratic Party president, Robert Mwanza has urged the government.

Mr. Mwanza said the fight against corruption in the country would always be perceived as a witch hunt if the ACC and DEC remained under the executive because they are only seen to be proactive when the President speaks.

He said in an interview that as long as the two investigative wigs remained as desks under State House, the fight against corruption would always be perceived to be persecution and a mockery other than what it was intended for.

“Immediately government decided to put these organizations under the armpit of the executive, State House to be specific, that is when hell broke loose because these institutions are not as independent as we are made to believe,” he said.

Mr. Mwanza is of the view that the ACC and DEC are not as independent as they are supposed to be because they are only seen to act each time there was an outcry from the government.

He said it was disappointing that the two institutions are only seen to move rapidly to start pursuing people perceived to be corrupt when the President speaks and this has made the public to question their credibility.

“Why is it that the ACC cannot pursue people perceived to be corrupt when there is no pronouncement from the high office but each time the President says something then there is rapid movement to arrest these people, for as long as they remain as desks under state house, the fight against corruption will always be perceived as a mockery,” he said.
